Smart Connection Enterprise Server

Smart Connection is an editorial system that could be introduced gradually in those publications, where it makes sense to divide the editing of content and layout. Existing InDesign layouts and workflows can be used unchanged. What is new is that content from one or more pages can be released, after which authors can write and edit texts.

Smart Connection is "the missing link" between Adobe InDesign and InCopy. It is the piece that makes it possible - and effective - to use InDesign in editorial solutions. Smart Connection creates the link between layout and content, but without limiting the graphic designers or entangling them in cumbersome processes.

Smart Connection allows more editors on the same job. A graphic designer can layout while authors write the content. If the layout is changed then contributors can immediately see that they must adhere to new space requirements. The status of individual elements is constantly displayed. Proofs are also committed directly onto the pages, they no longer need manual handling and reformatting by layouters.

Allowing layouters and authors to work on the same document will normally cause problems. There is a latent risk that more people can edit at the same time, or that an article can be removed from a layout while still being edited. Smart Connection is initially built to prevent such errors, and security is deeply integrated with InDesign and InCopy.

By Basing Enterprise Editionon on XML, MySQL / MS SQL and PHP, WoodWing have created an open solution that makes it easy to integrate with other systems. Tied in with Adobe's leading InDesign and InCopy products this ensures that the solution, both now and in the future, can integrated and improved to address editorial needs.
